APL 1136 Lenda da Senhora de Alagada (2)
It is said that the image of Our Lady of Alagada (of the Flood) appeared in the hole of an olive tree, in the place where her chapel stands today. The image was brought by the waters of the river Tagus, during a flood. Three times the image was taken to the parish church of Vila Velha and it always returned to the olive tree. That is why they concluded the Lady's wish was to remain there and raised the chapel.
Dizem que a Senhora de Alagada apareceu no interior do tronco de uma oliveira, no lugar onde está hoje implantada a sua capela. A imagem foi trazida pelas águas do rio Tejo, durante uma cheia.
Por três vezes a imagem foi levada para a igreja matriz de Vila Velha e sempre voltava ao tronco da oliveira. Por este facto, concluíram ser vontade da Senhora ficar neste lugar e aqui ergueram a capela.
